A Korean Artist Coming to You vs Traveling to Korea: An Honest Comparison

Written byCYAN

"A Korean artist is coming to my country โ€• how is that different from traveling to Korea?"

"A visiting service is convenient, but how would I get my retouch later?"

"If I'm doing it, I want it done right โ€• where will the result be best?"

These are common worries from people abroad researching Korean permanent makeup.

Hello, I'm CYAN (HSIN SIAN), director of CYAN PMU in Hongdae, Seoul ^^

I'm a PMU artist with a national clinical-psychologist license, a judge at permanent-makeup competitions, and the first Korean instructor to teach powder brows (eyebrow PMU) at clinics in Japan. To date I've completed 30,000+ procedures with clients from around the world.

Let me be honest up front. CYAN does not run a visiting (dispatch) service. I'll explain why โ€• and what really differs between a visiting service and traveling to Korea โ€• not as a sales pitch, but from the standpoint of the result ^^

1. What's the difference between a "visiting" service and traveling to Korea?

A visiting service is where the artist travels to your country to do the procedure; traveling to Korea is where you come to the studio in Seoul. The biggest difference is whether retouch and aftercare can continue in the same environment.

A visiting service spares you the travel, but it's done in a temporarily rented space, and once the artist leaves, getting your retouch or any follow-up from the same hands becomes difficult. Traveling to Korea means a flight, but you're treated in an environment with the studio's full pigment range, sterilization setup, and tools โ€• and on a return visit, the same artist can carry you through to the retouch.

โœ” Visiting = no travel, but a temporary space and weak follow-up continuity

โœ” Traveling to Korea = travel needed, but the full studio environment + a retouch system

โœ” The criterion isn't convenience โ€• it's "the same hands, to the end"

Convenience favors the visiting service; continuity of result favors traveling to Korea.

For the full picture of a Korea trip, see our inbound guide.

2. Why does "all the way through the retouch" matter so much in PMU?

Because PMU isn't finished in one sitting โ€• the color and shape are completed by the first session plus one retouch 6โ€“8 weeks later. After the first session, as the skin heals, the color fades by 30โ€“40%, and the retouch that corrects density and shape at that point is what decides the result.

With a visiting service, once the artist leaves, that retouch is hard to receive from the same hands โ€• and if someone else takes over, the nuance of color and technique can shift. CYAN's price includes one retouch, so you can finish with the same hands on your next trip or return visit.

โœ” PMU is completed by the first session + one retouch (6โ€“8 weeks later)

โœ” A visiting service makes same-hands retouch hard to continue

โœ” CYAN's price includes the retouch โ€• finished by the same hands on a return visit

More than the first session, who is responsible all the way through the retouch is what separates the result.

Retouch-inclusive prices per service are on our pricing page.

3. Where are design, hygiene, and tools more stable?

A studio has everything the artist normally uses โ€• the full pigment lineup, sterilization equipment, even in-house needles. A visiting service runs only on what can be carried, so the options and environment are inevitably limited.

CYAN uses needles made by taking part directly in 0.1mm nano-milling at a GMP-certified factory, records before and after in photos, confirms the design together in the mirror, and proceeds only with the shape you've agreed to. This process works most reliably in a studio where every tool and the space itself are in place.

โœ” Studio = full setup (pigments, sterilization, in-house needles)

โœ” Visiting = limited to the tools and environment you can bring

โœ” Single-use consumables and sterilization are more consistent in a fully equipped space

Even with the same artist, the result is more stable where every tool is in place.

You can see each service's process by area on our services page.

4. So how many days do I need for a Korea trip?

Usually 3 days (2 nights) is plenty. The procedure is done in a day, and you can fly home after a simple recovery check the next day. There's no need to over-plan.

Before your visit we discuss the design and schedule in advance via LINE, and on arrival we finalize the design in the mirror. After you return home, send recovery photos and we'll continue aftercare in your language. The retouch is best at 6โ€“8 weeks once the skin has healed, so it helps to set your return trip in advance.

โœ” 2 nights / 3 days covers the procedure + early recovery

โœ” Pre-visit LINE consultation โ†’ design finalized on the day

โœ” Native-language LINE aftercare after you return home

Traveling to Korea is a "one-day procedure," but a 3-day window keeps it relaxed.

If language worries you, CYAN consults in five languages โ€• Korean, English, Japanese, and Chinese (Simplified & Traditional).

5. Why doesn't CYAN offer a visiting service?

Because being responsible with the same hands all the way through the retouch and aftercare is what we believe decides the result. A visiting service breaks that continuity โ€• you can have the first session, but the same hands can't easily see the color settle to the end.

So CYAN runs only the travel-to-Korea model. Instead, we lower the language barrier with five-language consultation, and after you return home we check your recovery together over LINE. Since you've come a long way, having one person responsible from the first session through the retouch is, we believe, the most honest path.

โœ” No visiting service โ€• a choice to protect follow-up continuity

โœ” We lower the language barrier with five-language consultation

โœ” After you return home, the same hands stay with you over LINE

What we can give you is "the same hands, to the end" โ€• which is why it's travel-to-Korea.

In closing

For a visiting service vs traveling to Korea, this is all you need to remember.

โœ” One: the core difference isn't convenience โ€• it's "the same hands, to the end"

โœ” Two: PMU is completed at the retouch โ€• a visiting service has weak continuity there

โœ” Three: a studio has the full setup โ€• pigments, sterilization, in-house needles

โœ” Four: traveling to Korea usually takes 2 nights / 3 days, with LINE aftercare after you return

โœ” Five: CYAN doesn't run a visiting service โ€• so one person is responsible from the first session through the retouch

Convenience is nice, but since the result stays with you for a long time, it's worth weighing "the same hands, to the end" one more time.

Thank you for reading to the end.

Warmly, CYAN (HSIN SIAN), Director, CYAN PMU, Hongdae, Seoul.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between a Korean artist's visiting service and getting it done in Korea?

A visiting service is where the artist travels to your country; traveling to Korea is where you come to the studio in Seoul. The biggest difference is whether retouch and aftercare can continue from the same hands. A visiting service is convenient with no travel, but it's done in a temporary space, and once the artist leaves, retouch and follow-up are hard to get from the same hands. Traveling to Korea means a flight, but you're treated in an environment with the studio's full pigments, sterilization, and tools โ€• and on a return visit the same artist can carry you through the retouch. CYAN doesn't run a visiting service, only the travel-to-Korea model, precisely for this continuity.

Why does the retouch matter so much in PMU?

Because PMU isn't finished in one sitting โ€• the color and shape are completed by the first session plus one retouch 6โ€“8 weeks later. After the first session, as the skin heals, the color fades by 30โ€“40%, and the retouch that corrects density and shape at that point decides the final result. With a visiting service, once the artist leaves, that retouch is hard to get from the same hands, and if someone else takes over, the color and technique can shift. CYAN's price includes one retouch, so you can finish with the same hands on your next trip or return visit.

How many days do I need to travel to Korea for PMU?

Usually 2 nights / 3 days is plenty. The procedure is done in a day, and you can fly home after a simple recovery check the next day. Before your visit we discuss design and schedule via LINE, and on arrival we finalize the design in the mirror and proceed only with what you've agreed to. After you return, send recovery photos and we'll continue aftercare in five languages. The retouch is best at 6โ€“8 weeks once the skin has healed, so it helps to set your return trip in advance.

Results and longevity vary by individual skin and aftercare. Pigment allergy, infection, and temporary swelling or redness are possible. Details are explained in the pre-procedure consultation.
