Hairline

Drawing the most natural line, matched to your forehead width and face shape

Hairline

A hairline procedure builds fine shading along the forehead line to naturally tidy a wide-looking forehead and M-shaped recessions. Instead of drawing in hair one strand at a time, CYAN applies soft shading with a powder method so the line connects naturally with the scalp hair. Even the same forehead differs in width and facial proportion, so the height and curve of the line are designed differently after looking at your face shape together.

Who is this for?

It suits those bothered by a wide-looking forehead or M-shaped recessions, who hesitate when tying their hair up or taking photos because a sparse hairline shows, or who want to tidy their facial proportions a little. Its purpose differs from SMP, which fills scalp hair density, so we look at forehead width and facial proportion together and set the direction in the consultation.

Why we apply powder instead of drawing each strand

There's a way to draw the hairline strand by strand like hair texture, but CYAN uses a powder method. Etching texture one strand at a time tends to blur and remain on oily skin after about a year. The powder method applies soft shading as a surface, keeping a natural density that holds up both from afar and up close. It suits those who want a neatly tidied line.

We look at forehead width and face shape first

Even the same "wide forehead" suits a different line height when facial proportions differ. Before drawing the line, CYAN measures forehead width and facial proportion. Rather than blindly lowering the line, the goal is to find a height and curve that tidies naturally within your overall facial proportion. For M-shaped recessions, we match the density separately so it connects with the surrounding shading.

How is the hairline different from SMP?

SMP (scalp micropigmentation) builds dots on the scalp to reinforce hair density itself, while the hairline procedure tidies the boundary line with the forehead through shading. The purpose differs. If your concern is the forehead line that shows when tying your hair up or taking photos, the hairline fits; if it's crown or overall density, SMP fits. Some people have both concerns, so we look at the scalp and forehead together and decide in the consultation.

A line for tying your hair up and taking photos

Even if you cover the hairline daily with powder, it wipes off when you sweat, and a breeze puts the forehead front of mind. Tidying the line with the procedure means you're less conscious of the sparse areas that show when tying your hair up or taking photos. Cutting down the daily chore of drawing and erasing is a big benefit of the hairline procedure.

No need to apply a separate recovery cream

Because of the nature of the area, the hairline — unlike other procedures — doesn't require a separate recovery cream during healing. For the first few days the color looks slightly dark, then goes through a process of softening as it settles. You can read more about the detailed healing flow and how the color settles in our guide.

The Process

01

Consultation & Measurement

We measure forehead width and facial proportion together, and decide the direction by comparing which line suits you against SMP and the strand-by-strand method. We also take before photos.

02

Line Design & Symmetry Check

We set the height and curve of the line based on your face shape, check the left-right symmetry and the balance of the M-shape areas, then begin with your agreement.

03

Powder Procedure

Using single-use tools, we build fine shading bit by bit to control the density. Partway through, we have you sit up to check the impression and symmetry from a distance.

04

Finish & Touch-Up Guidance

After finishing, we check and reinforce together in the mirror. We take a finished photo and explain the color-settling process and the touch-up within 3 months.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the hairline procedure hurt?

We use a numbing solution, and since it applies shading with a powder method, most people experience it as a slight prickling. The forehead line can be a sensitive area, so if it's uncomfortable we pause partway through.

Don't you do the strand-by-strand method?

CYAN recommends the powder method. Etching texture one strand at a time tends to blur and remain on oily skin after about a year. The powder method holds a natural density longer, both from afar and up close.

How is the hairline different from SMP?

SMP builds dots on the scalp to reinforce hair density, while the hairline procedure tidies the boundary line with the forehead through shading. If your concern is forehead width or an M-shape, the hairline fits; if it's the crown or overall density, SMP fits. Depending on the case, we look at both in the consultation.

When is the touch-up, and how much?

If reinforcement is needed after the color settles, a touch-up is done within 3 months, and the touch-up cost is KRW 100,000. The exact base procedure price varies with forehead width and the line's range, so it's given in the consultation.

Do I need to do any special care after the procedure?

Because of the nature of the area, the hairline doesn't require a separate recovery cream. The color looks dark for a few days, then softens as it settles — we explain that process and the precautions in the consultation and guide.
